Divisional Summary

Tycos Tool and Die, a division of Magna Exteriors Inc., is a tool shop specializing in building medium to large-sized tooling to support Magna Exteriors divisions globally. Our primary focus is plastic injection molds but our specialties also include hydro-form dies, high/low pressure casting, reaction injection molding, injection compression, compression and insert molding. With a workforce consisting of skilled Designers, Mould Makers and Machinists, we are executing a growth strategy that has us expanding our capabilities to support tooling initiatives domestically and globally.

About the Role

Building large-sized moulds for the automotive industry, the Advanced Mould Maker lays out, machines, fits, assembles, and finishes metal parts to make, modify, or repair moulds according to tool design. Interprets the design into a three-dimensional solid object. Tests, repairs and delivers moulds and tooling of various types. Training and providing guidance to junior mould makers is a major component of this position. This position will ideally work from the Windsor/Detroit area to support our tool shops and divisions locally.

Your Responsibilities

• Instruct both the theory and practical applications of all aspects of the mould build process to other members of the team respecting skill levels, with attention to safety, quality, cost and timing

• Must verify that customer specifications and company standards are met during the performance of your task(s)

• Must document all discussions with customers (at try-outs and offsite services) including instructions, etc.; Collect or pass on information to the customer with or without Management; on or off-site

• Utilize the non-conformance process to provide accurate, detailed documentation of all issues, non-conformances or constraints that cause rework or tool delay and understand why this has occurred

• Ability to plan and organize efficient work flow for assigned tasks

• Complete training matrix (Mould Maker Level 3)

• Able and willing to travel internationally as required for training, benchmarking or investigational purposes

• Present and review MAFACT items daily with team members, which includes:

o Safety, Quality, Cost, Timing and Motivation related items when Team Leader is Absent

• Effectively interact with Engineering, Scheduling, Machining and Management

• Work with Team Leader to analyze reports and department statistics

• Maintain confidentiality and integrity

• Assist in the implementation of plans to control and maintain safety, quality, 5S, cost and efficiency for assigned areas

• Cross-train in other departments/sub-departments to enhance skillsets, provide scheduling flexibility and support Tycos’ overall sustainability

• Participate in and support Continuous Improvement and WCM initiatives

• Adhere to applicable quality systems and Support the total Tycos Management System (MAFACT, WCM, ISO-9001)

• Able to perform formal/informal workplace inspections

Who we are looking for

Your preferred qualifications

Education:

• Minimum completion of Grade 12 diploma

• College diploma in a Trade or Technical Field, or equivalent experience, an asset

• Tool & Die Maker or Mould Maker Certificate is an asset

Experience:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in a Mould Maker position

• Experience in the automotive industry an asset

Skills:

• Thorough knowledge of mold making practices, standards and expectations

• Well-developed organizational and time management skills

• Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude

• Good knowledge of NX software and GSS

• Good Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, TEAMS, Outlook

• Thorough knowledge of Mould Build standards and expectations

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and build effective teams

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to build a small tool (3’x3’)
