THOR Solutions, LLC Junior Marine Engineer in Washington, District Of Columbia

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Junior Marine Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of shipboard auxiliary systems, their design, and shipboard integration. The candidate will assist the USCG Ship Design Team with the design review of the Offshore Patrol Cutter, Polar Security Cutter, and Waterways Commerce Cutter.

Typical Responsibilities: The candidate’s responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) performing or supporting the following actions: 

  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, and apply to applicable design and requirements.

  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.

  • Conduct analyses propulsion systems and types, marine auxiliary piping systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.

  • Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.

  • Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with shipyards.

  • Communicate and participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and working groups with other USCG and Navy entities

Location: Hybrid. 2-3 days/week onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington DC, and remainder may be flex/telework. Position may require additional regular onsite days, up to full time onsite, based on contract & customer requirements. 

Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated. 

 

US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment. 

Typical Physical Activity: Desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. 

Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either: 

  • Already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred); 

  • OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a similar discipline.

  • Zero (0) to one (1) year of relevant experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and weight handling systems calculations and analyses.

  • Familiarity with computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.

  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.

  • Familiarity with the USCG Standard Workstation and associated software products.
