POSITION PURPOSE
The IT Administrator performs a wide variety of complex information technology (IT) and computer related activities for the HUB. Develop, plan, and implement strategies for the department's ongoing and constantly changing technological needs. Manage and provide primary support for servers, desktops, domain administration, and proprietary software, including planning, acquisition, installation, maintenance, and evaluation. Research and implement process improvements in all areas, building reliable and effective systems with an emphasis on accessibility to achieve department goals.

Job responsibilities require the ability to perform tasks independently during variable working hours with a schedule to potentially include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Promising candidates will possess a passion for higher education and student development, can communicate technical subjects to non-technical staff, perform at the highest level of integrity, display extreme attention to detail, and have a proven track record as a successful IT professional.

This position reports to the Associate Director for Finance and Business Operations, and interacts regularly with department staff and campus colleagues on initiatives related to IT.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Systems and Network Administration (50%)

  • Oversee and manage onsite and virtual Windows and Linux servers, supporting roles like WSUS, SCCM, Remote Desktop Gateway, MS SQL, MySQL, PHP, and file and print services.

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

  • Perform comprehensive onsite and offsite backups to safeguard against data loss in the event of a catastrophic incident affecting the HUB.

  • Develop and maintain thorough documentation for all procedures, policies, accounts, assets, inventory, and licenses.

  • Add and remove machines to the network and Delegated OU. Configure group policies and maintain directory and group membership information for all computers within the Delegated Domain.

  • Support and manage critical software and services including Mazevo, 7-Point Solutions, SenSOURCE Traffic Counting, ggRock, Adobe, JAMF, SharePoint, LastPass, and Avigilon Video Surveillance.

  • Create, update, and maintain WordPress directories, websites, and plugins.

  • Write and use SQL queries to generate reports for the Use of University Facilities

  • Committee/Office of Special Programs upon request.

  • Serve as a network technical contact for the HUB.Asset and Infrastructure Management (25%)

  • Oversee and manage technology infrastructure. Develop and implement technology solutions so that staff, students, and clients may have access to technology tools and data in a way that best supports their work, learning, and experience.

  • Research, identify and recommend purchase of IT hardware and software to facilitate the HUB’s operations. Review and evaluate new products with software and hardware representatives.

  • Develop and implement procedures and schedules for the timely renewal of IT hardware and software.

  • Purchase, receive, and prepare all technology hardware and software systems for distribution. Manage institutional inventory for the HUB following UW and state regulations.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with software licensing agreements to maintain legal and efficient software usage.

  • Ensure best practices in, and compliance with, UW security and accessibility standards.

  • Prepare surplus assets for transfer or disposal to maintain a streamlined and efficient asset inventory.

  • Assist the HUB Media Tech Lead with the configuration, management, and upkeep of building and event space A/V systems (AVoIP).Helpdesk Support (25%)

  • Manage and provide daily technical support to staff, faculty, and students in a diverse computing environment that includes, but is not limited to, platforms running Windows, macOS, iOS, and Linux.

  • Recruit, supervise, and direct the work of 1 student helpdesk assistant.

  • Develop and implement customer service protocols and online technology tools and ensure the adequate provision of technology resources and support.

  • Coordinate with UW IT to escalate and resolve tickets.

  • Monitor and respond to problems or emergency situations that may occur during scheduled or non-scheduled work hours. Respond rapidly to client issues in live production environments.

  • Write and maintain end-user documentation and tutorials. Contribute to ticketing system knowledge base.

  • Educate HUB staff regarding virus threats, malicious links, phishing, other network security threats, and software changes/updates.

  • Perform regular installation and update of end-user security patches, and anti-virus programs.

  • Ensure adequate staff training and support for Office 365, document sharing, communication tools, and other proprietary software.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technology field.

  • 2+ years’ professional experience in desktop support and system administration.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license / certification / registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Expertise working in Windows and Linux server management.

  • Professional experience managing support and working with teams to install, configure, and troubleshoot various hardware, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, printers, audio/visual equipment, and video capture systems.

  • Demonstrated success in supporting systems and tools including Microsoft OS, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint Online, and Mac OS.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and technical documentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to users at all levels of expertise.

  • Proven ability to work successfully with individuals and groups with varying ages and from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting technology in an educational environment.

  • Knowledge of UW technology infrastructure and administrative systems.

  • Expertise in deploying technology using disk imaging software and remote management systems.

  • Experience collaborating with business units and stakeholders to determine technology needs and priorities necessary to achieve business objectives.

  • Familiarity with Git, Apache, PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Familiarity with LAN centers and PC gaming.

  • Familiarity with Active Directory Services.

  • Familiarity with WordPress Content Management Systems. IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY This position is a mission-critical role that enables the work of the Husky Union Building, its staff, and the students and UW community who utilize the facility and its services. This position will be expected to collaborate or lead on:

  • Development and management of the unit’s budget.

  • Oversight and subject matter expert for all IT processes in the Husky Union Building.

  • Execution of projects and initiatives by actively collaborating with other units.

  • Coordinating unit contracts and service agreements with external vendors. POSITION COMPLEXITIES Candidates will possess an in-depth knowledge of information technology systems and security, network administration, and end-user customer service support; be a strategic leader and contributing member of a team; manage projects with the highest level of integrity; display an extreme attention to detail; and have a proven track record of developing and executing vision. SUPERVISION

  • This position reports to and works under the general supervision of the HUB Associate Director for Finance and Business Operations.

  • This position directly supervises 1 student employee. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Position is responsible to work independently with minimal oversight from the Associate Director, providing internal support throughout the entire HUB department. Evening and weekend hours may be necessary. Schedule can be flexible and allows hybrid/work from home, with the on-site job hours being performed in an office setting.
