SUMMARY:

  • Manages a team of Loss Control Specialists and Subject Matter Experts to support medium to long-term Loss Control related matters for all value chains under Marathon Petroleum Company (MPC).

  • Develops and/or optimizes projects, work processes, technologies, tools, and training to drive performance and results e.g., Standards Operating Procedures (SOP), KPI’s, dashboard, savings report, records keeping per retention policy, and knowledge management.

  • Fosters Loss Control awareness, improvement opportunities, and collaborating with stakeholders e.g., Marine, Accounting, Commercial business partners, Refinery, and other groups as well as MPLX and 3rd parties to optimize works processes, improve efficiency and effectiveness, and minimize risks related to Loss Control.

  • Oversees the Loss Control Risks Assessment Program including risks raking, investigating areas of concerns, identifying improvement opportunities, and communicating and providing recommendations to Loss Control & Quality Assurance Manager and appropriate stakeholders.

  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in Loss Control and work collaboratively to develop Loss Control improvement initiatives. Support investigation of complex Loss Control related issues when needed. Communicate and provide recommendations to Loss Control & Quality Assurance Director and/or stakeholders as appropriate.

  • Maintains functional knowledge within job requirement e.g., Loss Control and applicable company’s Operating Procedure, Measurement standard (e.g., metering, tank gauging, vessel measurement & inspection, interpret/analyst data, and balance reconciliation), software, and tools.

  • Monitors and stays up to date with industry, federal, state, or local resources to ensure the MPC practices align with regulatory requirements, stakeholder expectations, and technological advancements. Maintains key industry relationships and represents the Company in industry organizations.  

  • Assesses abilities and potential, coaches to develop capabilities and builds high performing teams. Providing feedback, instruction, and development guidance to help others excel in their current or future job responsibilities; planning and supporting the development of individual skills and abilities both current performance as well as long-term development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., business, engineering, accounting) is required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of industry-related experience, two years of which must be directly in Loss Control and/or Measurement required.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Oil & Gas operations, Loss Control and Measurement standards (e.g., meter, tank, and marine), as well as commercial and regulatory aspects (e.g., financial, contract, claim and negotiation process) is required.

  • Travel required up to 20% of time.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Expert level working knowledge in data analytics, and improvement projects and change management is highly preferred.

  • Experienced managing a remote team and working with remote stakeholders is highly preferred.

  • Skilled in leading and influencing changes/improvement without authority and finding common ground win-win solutions are highly preferred.

  • Strong track record in applying knowledge of MPC’s business, industry, and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals. Makes decisions and recommendations clearly linked to MPC’s strategy is highly preferred.

  • Adept knowledge of MPMP process, MPC risks assessment/management standard, and Improvement tools.
