The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for supervising engineering activities including cost reduction, technology/research, new machine development, and legacy equipment improvement. The position requires technical engineering knowledge coupled with people leadership skills, proficiency in process improvement, machine maintenance, cost reduction, and project management. The position works closely with the operations team and other functional areas in the company (engineering, advanced manufacturing, supply chain, finance). This role manages a team responsible for designing, producing, and implementing new machinery designs to meet their customer requirements (primarily operations). Additionally, drives continuous improvement in legacy equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of engineers and technicians to successfully implement new machinery and machinery improvements. Projects must meet KPI’s (schedule, cost, customer impact) while driving innovation and aligning with strategic objectives.

  • Manages diverse skillsets including logic controls, mechanical / electrical design, manufacturing, assembly, and integration.

  • Engages production employees regularly to solicit feedback for improvement and to align equipment capability with operational requirements.

  • Maintains expertise through internal and external training; vendor relationships, and trade journals

Other Duties as assigned and the following:

  • Acts as a technical resource for maintenance and other engineers.

  • Select, coach and develop staff. Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manage performance - recognizing achievement, providing feedback and administering progressive discipline when necessary.

  • Foster collaboration between engineering departments to identify and harvest new engineering concepts, technologies, techniques, standards and procedures.

  • Manage expenses and ensure project budget compliance.

  • Engage in and lead business planning processes, recruitment, retention, talent acquisition, development, and mentoring.

  • Create and maintain an organizational culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment and a sense of urgency toward goals. Challenges team members to question the status quo and embrace continuous improvement and engagement.

  • Develop engineering talent throughout the company, identifying training and growth plans for employees.

  • Act as SAP Super User within functional area as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 2 years engineering experience in an operational environment

  • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.

  • Solid understanding of engineering technical issues/needs and financial items as related to machine design and development.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Self-driven, highly motivated, flexible and high capacity to learn.

  • Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Solid Works and/or ProE)

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
