Siemens Energy Real Time Simulation Engineer Control & Protection HVDC in Raleigh, North Carolina

As a System Engineer for Real-Time Simulation of HVDC Systems you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to craft and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Raleigh.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Dynamic performance studies within tender and project execution of HVDC projects

  • Optimizing the dynamic behaviour of the HVDC converter (e.g., black-start and network restoration, grid forming controls, multi-terminal systems) according to customer and national grid code requirements

  • Analysing sub-synchronous torsional/control interactions and the harmonic converter impedance, as well as potential interactions between the HVDC converter and other controlled devices in the power system

  • Developing and validating simulation models for diverse EMT simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, EMTP-RV)

  • Customer trainings for simulation models and presentation of study results to customer

  • Continuous improvement and standardization of simulation models, study procedures and methods, processes in project execution as well as documentation of results

  • Supporting the project management in technical discussions, participating in customer meetings, and coordinating external partners

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power engineering

  • 5- 8 years' experience

  • Initial experience in the areas of power converter technology (HVDC and FACTS), high-voltage technology, digital simulation technology as well as control and automation technology

  • Basic knowledge of real-time simulation systems, preferably with RTDS or comparable (such as Hypersim, e-megasim), and of simulation tools, preferably with EMTDC, EMTP-RV or Matlab/Simulink

  • Fluent in English

  • Willingness to travel on business and abroad to deliver the system to the customer.

  • Initiative and motivation to learn, outstanding team and collaboration skills, passion to dive deeper into the field of Energy Transmission
