This position is based in Northbrook, Illinois. Remote work from certain states may be permitted in accordance with Astellas’ Responsible Flexibility Guidelines. Candidates interested in remote work are encouraged to apply.

Purpose and Scope:

The purpose of the Sr. Manager, Supply Chain is to provide single-point accountability and leadership for all supply chain aspects of assigned portfolio of products. Key responsibilities include, issue resolution, regular purchasing and planning tasks, performance improvement projects, and product life cycle management. Leads cross functional teams to ensure prompt launch of new products.

Works cross-functionally with contract manufacturers, suppliers, Astellas manufacturing plants, Marketing, Sales, Customer Operations, Demand Management, Quality, R&D, Regulatory, and country operations to develop and execute supply chain plans in support of strategic and financial goals.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Has responsibility to ensure proper set up of products, CMO’s and logistics related to new products.

  • Coordinates all activities with QA, PPT, PPM, Regulatory, Labeling, Product Security, CMOs and all other groups as required to ensure launch readiness for new products.

  • Participates in and may lead the negotiation of supply agreements with CMO for new products.

  • Develops and executes supply plans to meet demand requirements. Creates and maintains net production and purchasing requirements based on forecast, lead time, shelf life and safety stock policy. Represents Supply in the S&OP process.

  • Works in conjunction with Clinical Pharmacy to plan and supply material required for clinical studies.

  • Negotiates work orders, quotes and pricing for services and products as required for clinical studies.

  • Achieves a high customer service level while minimizing inventory and supply chain costs. Ensures alignment of business strategies with supply chain strategies.

  • Recommends and establishes supply chain strategy and tactics throughout the product life cycle. Activities include long-term capacity planning, capital investment planning, inventory policy, risk management and product rationalization throughout the Americas Planning Hub.

  • Identifies and resolves supply issues with all required stakeholders including Senior Management, Customers, Suppliers, QC, Regulatory, Finance, Sales, Clinical Pharmacy and Marketing.

  • Participates in and, when appropriate, leads supply chain improvement projects including SAP enhancements, process improvements, SOP development and supply agreements.

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • Manages a network of 4 to 12 suppliers of goods and services.

  • Responsible for an annual spend of $30 Million to $650 million.

  • Manages multiple cross functional teams to facilitate new product launches in all areas of the globe.

  • Reports to Director, Supply Chain Management

or Associate Director, Supply Chain Management

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 7 years Supply Chain experience required.

  • Bachelor of Science - preferably in supply chain, operations or related discipline.

  • Has a complete knowledge and understanding of MRP.

  • SAP or other ERP software experience and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

  • Has strong understanding of supply chain and manufacturing environments.

  • Possesses strong cross-functional leadership capability.

  • Succeeds at influencing a wide spectrum of stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Experience within the Life Sciences field and an international supply chain background is highly preferred.

  • MBA preferred

  • APICS Certification CPIM or CSCP.
