Position Description:

Performs varied and complex administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and/or program. Requires independent judgment and application of established policies and procedures. Works under general supervision with evaluation based on overall results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Assist the department in formulating, interpreting, and implementing policy; create, maintain, and implement complete financial aid policies and procedure per institutional, state, and federal student aid regulations; use available channels to identify and understand regulatory changes and evaluate their impact on UIL students, policies, and procedures; ensure bulletins and websites are properly updated and maintained with most up to date compliance requirements.

  • Coordinate the reconciliation of federal Title IV, state, and private financial aid grant and loan programs.

  • Perform regular internal audits of student eligibility and processing of files, including but not limited to reviewing student aid offers, federal verification, return to Title IV calculations, enrollment level changes, over-awarded records, cleared SAR C-flags, and other file review processes as identified.

  • Ensure annual update and program launch is compliant with federal and state program requirements.

  • Represent the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships on internal and external audits, including liaise with state auditors, federal program reviewers, and collaborate with university stakeholders.

  • Oversee completion of file verifications, calculation or return to Title IV funds.

  • Review satisfactory academic progress outcomes and oversee appeals committee to ensure adherence to policy.

  • Supervise the compliance team and mentor staff towards long term professional development goals. Develop training for financial aid administrators to maintain currency with regulatory guidance.

  • Develop corrective action plans to any audit findings or areas of concern identified, sharing those findings and plans to remediate with the AVP and Director of Federal and State Aid.

  • Assist in the coordination, compilation, and completion of the University's external reporting requirements (e.g., IPEDs, US News and World Report, Peterson's, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • Prior Banner experience or a similar ERP solution

  • Prior supervisory and staff development experience.

  • Ability to evaluate and implement new technologies.

  • Knowledge of financial aid leveraging methods and business processes.

  • Thorough understanding of federal and state aid rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of USDE systems including COD, CPS/FPS, NSLDS, SAIG Enrollment, etc.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
