Responsibilities

The Role

The Control Systems Engineer works directly with Manufacturing Operations, Process Engineering and Capital Engineering groups to provide support for the Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) at Eastman’s facility in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily support for the control system hardware & software needs

  • Administer and manage system architecture, associated domains, accounts, policies and system security

  • Perform troubleshooting of process, equipment and system malfunctions or failures involving the DCS & PLC, including after-hours support

  • Provide technical input for investigation and/or developing and implementing corrective action plans

  • Deliver the control system configuration changes required to support turnarounds and capital projects

  • Implement control system strategies, modifications and system upgrades using Eastman’s Management of Change (MOC) system

  • Identify issues with the control system needing improvements (system lifecycle upgrades), then work to develop and execute the associated projects

  • Ensure company policies are followed and perform audits to demonstrate compliance

  • Clearly communicate across functional departments at various levels to drive efficient issue resolution and change implementation

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related discipline or Associate's degree with relevant control systems experience

  • 5+ years of experience supporting/configuring one or more related control systems:

  • DCS: Emerson Ovation, DeltaV, Valmet D/3, Yokogawa, Honeywell TDC / TPS / Experion

  • PLC: Allen-Bradley ControlLogix / CompactLogix / MicroLogix / SLC, Siemens S7 / 505, Modicon

  • Fully capable and comfortable going into and performing work in an industrial plant environment

  • Work efficiently with minimal supervision, both individually and/or as part of a team

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Demonstrated computer skills & programming experience

  • Problem diagnosis & resolution ability

  • Willingness and ability to work off-hours as business needs dictate; must be flexible for after-hours call support and floor support of 24/7 operations

  • Comfortable working on live production systems

  • May be required to travel up to 5%

Considered a Plus

  • 10+ years of applicable work experience supporting Industrial Control Systems (ICS) in a manufacturing environment preferred

  • Background or experience in electronics / instrumentation / process controls / industrial networking

  • Operator graphic development experience, including high-performance HMI concepts

  • Alarm management and rationalization experience

  • Experience with computer back-up and restore process

  • Familiarization with PLC configuration and support

  • Field experience with the commissioning and startup phases of a project

  • A working knowledge of field instrumentation, electrical circuits and the control system troubleshooting process

  • Working knowledge of P&ID drawings

  • Experience reading, understanding and developing instrumentation loop sheets and card drawing schematics
