This position has a pay range based on experience $45,448 to $48,568

Supports the success of caseworkers by assisting the new employee's supervisor in delivering work skills training, providing mentoring, oversight and leadership to enhance new case manager's orientation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with hiring, orientation and training of all new case managers, and other positions as needed through the first six to nine months of hire.

  • Post open positions within iCIMS, conduct interviews with applicants; partner with supervisory and management staff for re-hire decisions.

  • Mentor new staff to ensure staff are trained, understand child placing agency rules, family court expectations, DHHS policy and protocol, as well as other community systems.

  • Provide job shadowing for first home visits, family time and court hearings. Provide guidance and feedback.

  • Provide training for a range of case management services, including MiTEAM, social casework, support of clients, court testimony and community referral.

  • Design and conduct trainings and orientations that support DHHS policy and Samaritas standards of care.

  • Provide training for supportive casework services to child, birth family and foster family.

  • Prepare new staff for attending court hearings on assigned caseload.

  • Prepare staff to have the skills to ensure accurate, timely completion of all reports and documentation.

  • Serve as MiSACWIS liaison for assigned programs, manage DSA requests, train on Data

  • Serve as MiTEAM specialist for assigned programs.

  • Model and coach a strengths-based approach to foster care case management.

  • Provide temporary caseload coverage, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned


Job Qualifications

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related human services field with two years’ experience providing direct services in child welfare foster care required, with one year of licensing experience preferred. Knowledge of training design and implementation, including for adult learners.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of social service administration/management, and ability to use group dynamics and processes.

  • Capability in use of multiple data bases such as MiSACWIS and Harmony.

  • Strong understanding of DHHS policy including foster care, licensing, MiTEAM and MiSACWIS

  • Ability to convey new ideas and process to others through various training methods.

  • Willingness to learn new approaches and share knowledge with others.

  • Ability to be culturally sensitive and relate to multi-problem families.

  • Ability to develop outcomes measurements related to programs activities and services.

  • Ability to complete short and long-term goal setting.

  • Ability to work in team relationships with other professionals from various community groups, agencies and disciplines.

  • Ability to advocate for staff and program needs within the organization and inter- organization systems.

  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

  • Advanced ability to read, write and interpret legal and technical documents.

  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret data and financial reports and effect corrective action.

  • Ability to communicate expectations clearly and to effectively utilize a teamwork approach with staff at all levels.

  • Ability to utilize basic word processing and specific computer software applications.

    Additional WorkRequirements

  • As needed, to participate in a system of 24 hour availability to staff, clients, foster and adoptive parents, as required for supervisory back-up coverage.

  • Required to maintain a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours as needed.

  • Unrestricted, valid driver’s license with good driving record. Reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served; proof of current automobile insurance.
