The Boeing Company’s AvionX organization is seeking a Chief Engineer for our internally developed T-7A , avionics products. We are looking for a broad range of experience including Senior or Principal Electrical Design and Analysis Engineers .

This position is available in one of the following locations: Hazelwood, MO or Plano, TX.

The Chief Engineer leads a geographically diverse engineering workforce to achieve technical excellence throughout the product development lifecycle applying an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop integrate, validate, and verify hardware, then work with Operations to transition the product into production at rate. Successful job performance depends upon balancing creativity, executability and safety of flight while meeting cost and schedule goals. You will make essential decisions which achieve first-time quality with essential engineering rigor. You will develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partnering organizations for on-going and new business product development of the highest importance to The Boeing Company.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages end-to-end product development, spanning all aspect of the product lifecycle: from product concept inception strategy, requirements definition, product development, design, testing, certification, product delivery and to post-delivery support

  • Lead a geographically diverse engineering workforce or employees, contractors, and suppliers to achieve technical excellence throughout the product development lifecycle applying an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop integrate, and validate and verify hardware

  • Establish a culture of proactive cross-functional technical oversight, risk management and rapid issue resolution, providing alternative paths for issue resolution and open and honest dialogue on technical issues across all functions

  • Serve as technical authority on applicable Product and AvionX engineering boards

  • Lead and/or approves root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities

  • Manages design changes and configuration control as well as creation, establishment, and execution of design processes

  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partnering organizations for on-going and new business product development

  • Responsible for quality and operational excellence of the product to drive first-time quality through extensive application of Model-based Engineering (MBE), virtual verification and validation (V&V), and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional engineering teams in an aerospace product development environment

  • 5+ years of experience leading analysis and translation of complex requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications

  • 5+ years of experience in interdisciplinary engineering planning, design, development, integration, and validation and verification of avionics and/or electronics including hardware and software

  • 5+ years of experience executing quality requirements on Commercial or Major DoD programs

  • Willing and able to travel 10-20% of the time, both domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Active Clearance (a U.S Security Clearance that has been active in past 24 months is considered active)

  • Engineering / Technical degree in a relevant field. (e.g., Electrical/electronic engineering, systems engineering, or software engineering)

  • Proven successful record of avionics or electronics product development/delivery meeting stringent safety and quality standards while completing on schedule and within budget

  • 5+ years of experience with the development and verification of FPGA and embedded firmware

  • Experience with the technical management of electronics components suppliers

  • Qualification of DoD electronics products at Level of Rigor 1

  • Experience building of cross-functional relationships; experience connecting with and advising senior leaders within the business and thoughtfully challenging leadership when necessary

  • Ability to lead in a matrixed, complex organization and empower and motivate large, diverse, cross-functional teams towards difficult and complex technical challenges

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with global teams and collaborate across geographic locations

  • Gains others' trust by demonstrating openness and honesty, behaving consistently, and acting in accordance with moral, ethical, professional, and organizational guidelines

  • Familiarity with Mil-Std’s 704F, 810G, and 461G

Typical Education/Experience:

Senior (Level 5)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Principal (Level 6)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years’ related work experience, Master+18 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range Senior: $145,350-$210,450

Summary Pay Range Principal: $177,650-$257,600
