The Hamburg Central School District seeks candidates for the position of Maintenance Mechanic Crew Chief or Director of Facilities who possess the knowledge, character, vision and energy to supervise and manage site maintenance programs which provide support services to District schools and facilities.

Administrative Leadership:

  • Supervising and scheduling maintenance, facilities, and ground crew to guarantee prompt, high-quality service;

  • Develop and implementing a long-term plan for proactive facilities management.

  • Budgeting for buildings and grounds department and control of facilities expenses throughout the year.

  • Estimates costs, time and material required for specific projects.

  • Monitoring utility usage and implementation of energy saving initiatives.

  • Maintaining record of inspections, projects, logs, and daily workflow.

  • Overseeing 24/7 facilities support as needed.

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Communicate clearly, timely and effectively with all schools and community.

  • Give and receive productive feedback.

  • Evaluate work performance of subordinate employees.

  • Oversee facility-related projects, including renovations, construction and upgrades.

  • Attending and participating in school activities to positive support for employees and community.

    Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Assigns and plans skilled work in one or more of the buildings or service trades

  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of school buildings and grounds.

  • Developing and monitoring preventative maintenance programs for, all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; HVAC, boilers, and freezers, fire systems; elevators and lifts; vehicles; roofing and drainage systems and building envelopes.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Skills in mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, HVAC systems, building controls and security and access systems.

  • Ability to work with others, team player.

  • Ability to safely and properly use standard tools and specialty equipment

  • Knowledge of best-practices in school cleanliness to help maintain a healthy environment for students, staff and community.

Minimum Qualifications:

a) Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience in the building or service trades, one (1) year of which was in a supervisory capacity

-OR-

b) Nine (9) years of experience in the building or service trades, one (1) year of which was in a supervisory capacity; or

-OR-

c) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of a) and b)

Special Requirement:

Possession of a valid Class 5 NYS driver?s license at the time of appointment.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:

The work involves responsibility for the efficient operation and upkeep of school mechanical and electrical equipment in a suburban school district. The incumbent is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all facilities and equipment. Leeway for exercise of independent judgment in the performance of duties is given. Direct supervision is exercised over a staff of skilled and unskilled employees. Related work included as required.
