Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity for Gilead to launch a new product for Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC).

The Senior Director, Marketing, Direct to Consumer/Patients (DTC/DTP), PBC will report directly to the Executive Director of Marketing for the PBC business and lead the Direct to Consumer/Patient marketing strategy and execution for Gilead’s PBC business. A key responsibility will be the product launch in the United States. This leadership role will ensure the success of Gilead’s PBC business by leading innovative patient marketing approaches, delivering branded content for the field team, and championing the communities we serve authentically. They will provide strong leadership skills with the ability to set a vision, manage change, and drive performance within a fast-moving, challenging, and dynamic commercial environment. The Senior Director will be responsible for budget oversight and management of key agency partnerships.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Owns the overall direct-to-patient strategy and oversees the development of the tactical plan for PBC DTC/DTP. Represents the patient voice to shape the overall brand strategy

  • Develop targeted patient approaches for personal (field-based) and non-personal promotion across PBC through effective marketing and a channel mix that includes print, digital, social media, out-of-home, and TV.

  • Effectively translates market research insights to optimize promotional strategies and tactics

  • Optimizes DTP media channels and mix, including digital, social, print, and television, by leveraging agency expertise, KPIs, and ROI analysis.

  • Continually evaluates and champions innovative approaches to strengthen brand loyalty

  • Develops effective, culturally competent consumer materials and messaging to meet the educational needs of consumers and community partners

  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure coordinated efforts that align with brand strategy and champion the voice of the consumer in broader cross-functional initiatives

  • Provides leadership and support to the overall DTC/DTP team and develops, coaches, and manages the performance of direct reports

  • Closely manages integrated promotions and media budget and prioritizes execution effectively

  • Oversees all agency relationships and performance while leveraging each agency's area of expertise and facilitating collaboration when needed to meet business needs.

  • Develops and delivers presentations to a range of internal (executives, US leadership team, sales) and external audiences

  • Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and policies

  • Experienced DTC/DTP marketer who can set a vision and provide direction across diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  • Posesses entrepreneurial thinking and is confident working within a fast-paced and challenging environment.

  • Recognized expertise in implementing a pharmaceutical brand and communication plan of action, consumer/patient targeting, and activation.

  • Record of accomplishment in pharma/biotech /consumer patient/community marketing with an understanding of expense budget planning, tracking, and ROI measurement.

  • Analytic thinker who can develop, interpret, and guide tactical insights, measurements, and ROI evaluations to optimize executions and tactical plans.

  • Possess excellent strategic thinking skills with the ability to formulate, develop, and execute development strategy.

  • Proven leadership skills with an ability to set a vision, lead change, and lead and mentor others are required.

  • Outstanding management skills, including training, performance management, planning, prioritization, objective setting, recruitment and selection, meeting management, and plan execution.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict, and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines.

  • The ideal candidate should possess a commanding executive presence and demonstrate the ability to earn respect through sound business judgment and decisive decision-making.

  • Established communication skills, highly competent presenter, able to gain credibility, engender trust and influence all levels, strong partnering skills, bias for action and tangible results

  • Demonstrated ability to conceive, develop, and implement multi-dimensional marketing and business plans.

  • Superior project management ability while effectively directing and overseeing multiple projects/priorities

  • Able to perform highly complex budget management

  • Sustained experience in developing external relationships leading to brand advocacy.

  • Strong product launch experience

  • Leadership Qualities: Strategic Vision, Cross-functional Leadership, Project Management, Ability to influence with and without authority

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience

OR

PhD and Twelve Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of marketing experience, primarily within pharma/biotech.

  • Prior people management experience required.

  • Biopharmaceutical or Pharmaceutical experience preferred.

  • MBA preferred, Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related fields required.

  • Direct-to-Patient expertise in prior roles with Advocacy, Community, and National Health systems and services is preferred.

  • An extensive understanding of pharmaceutical regulatory requirements and their impact on the development of marketing materials, experience, or exposure to Gilead franchises is preferred.

  • Firm command of financial management with an understanding of revenue forecasting, expense budget planning, and tracking.

  • Prior advertising, digital, or communications agency experience a plus.

The salary range for this position is: $255,425.00 - $330,550.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
