Job Description:

The Director-Commercial Banking Training & Development is a dual role that provides oversight and management of both training and development architecture and operations and staffing of the Commercial Banking Training Program (CBTP) and the Credit Pool. The role is responsible for leading the analysis, evaluation and repurposing of existing training and performance improvement solutions that align with CIBC business partner strategies and needs. The role applies proficient knowledge to recommend training solutions in collaboration with subject matter experts, providing regular project updates to leverage existing learning content. The Director-Commercial Banking Training & Development exercises independent judgement within defined procedures to recommend and execute new learning solutions that minimize future maintenance requirements and duplication of effort. The role exercises considerable latitude to help lead the staff in creating detailed instructional design plans and storyboards that develop training materials based on solid instructional design standards and best practices. The role applies professional analytical and communication skills to contribute to the regular review and update of style guides and training process standards. The role also oversees the recruitment and management of those in the Commercial Banking Training Program in all respects working in conjunction with the Department Head on staffing levels, budget, and advancement through the program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management of the day-to-day operations of the Credit Pool including assignment of transactions, monitoring of deal flow, loan presentation review, create and review of performance metrics, including providing guidance to the analysts in all aspects of Loan Presentation creation including credit questions, loan policy, systems, and process.

  • Ensure that staff within the department provide consistent and frequent feedback to all analysts and help to build a high energy, team approach to the entire program.

  • Oversee the responsibilities of the Lead Trainer with regards to the CBTP and other bank-wide training efforts. This shall cover all aspects of training execution including planning, delivery of classroom material, scheduling of guest speakers, evaluating third-party presentation materials, and coordinating logistics for training sessions.

  • Responsible for working in consultation with the Department Head and with Finance to develop an annual budget for delivering the department’s offerings including planned staffing levels, employee expenses (# of analysts, salaries & benefits, pace of placements), and external third-party training costs.

  • Work with recruiting team to execute the comprehensive recruiting process surrounding the Commercial Banking Training Program and Commercial Banking Internships, in coordination with Department Head with adherence to both current bank-wide staffing goals and annual budget.

  • Consistently present and promote the department and CBTP to all LOBs to ensure institutional knowledge of our strategic mission, vision, and values.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years in banking

  • College Degree required, Finance, Accounting, Economics preferred

  • Experience in underwriting, and portfolio management

  • Completion of formal Credit Training

  • Experience in facilitating classroom learning and financial education program design

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products with advanced knowledge financial analysis and modeling
