Unilever Technical Product Leader -Seventh Generation in Burlington, Vermont

OVERVIEW

The Technical Product Leader is the primary connection between the business and R&D functions and is responsible for partnering with the business to create strategic product plans, overall technical management of projects, creation and communication of technical concepts, adherence to project budgets and assurance of on-time project delivery. This involves a combination of strong technical knowledge, project management skills, excellent communication skills and strong cross-functional collaboration skills.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

-Develop comprehensive R&D project plans that merge customer requirements with company goals and coordinate technical personnel during all project phases, from initial development through implementation.

-Work across all facets of R&D including formulation, package development, process engineering and claim support to ensure project objectives are clearly defined and all technical aspects of projects are delivered on-time and with excellence

-Partner with other R&D leaders to ensure proper resource allocations are in-place to deliver key projects.

-Manage projects independently, working well cross-functionally with Marketing, Supply Chain, Project Management and outside suppliers.

-Communicate proactively with all involved R&D personnel to provide encouragement, identify problems and develop contingency plans, create solutions, and deliver the technical aspects of the project.

-Review proposed modifications on project plans, including meeting with interested parties to approve and implement beneficial changes.

-Ensure project technical documents are complete, current and shared appropriately.

-Ability to gauge technology and product trends in the brand relevant spaces, proactively recommending solutions & successfully building ammunition for a strong innovation pipeline over time.

-Presence at Retailer meetings/Trade engagements and PR events to communicate the excellence of our products in a digestable and convincing way through creative punchy facts, demos etc.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

-Bachelor’s degree in science/engineering preferred

-Extensive leadership experience and strong teaming abilities

-Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

-Minimum 5 years’ experience in consumer goods R&D or extensive experience in product development project management within a consumer goods company.

-Able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

-Creative problem solving and finding ways to think like a start up to get to solutions in time crunched situations.

-Externally focused, ability to see best practices across the industry and beyond (especially in relation to sustainability) and leverage that knowledge into actions that help the brand(s)

-Ability to understand the needs of the brand in context to its proposition and suggest solutions, products and practices that are brand appropriate

-Attention to detail, ability to get into specifics and details to ensure flawless delivery and navigation of the projects.
