We are seeking a category sourcing manager to help us fuel AWS’ explosive growth. You will be responsible for the strategic sourcing of the hardware powering AWS; this includes collaborating with stakeholders to define requirements and selecting a supplier to enable design and delivery of the product to our global data centers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Contract negotiations and commercial management of contract manufacturers.

  • Strong understanding of accounting practices and partnering with finance to conduct weekly, monthly and quarterly reconciliation of budgets. Partner with operations to identify and help drive new product roadmaps and execute strategic quality/availability/cost improvement initiatives. Analyze industry trends to develop and execute sourcing strategies that are in the best interest of our customers.

  • Driving monthly and quarterly reviews with your manufacturer to drive the best performance on cost, quality, and delivery

  • Analyze data and implement vendor performance controls to ensure operational and cost excellence.

  • Develop and support commercial strategies that drive significant business impact.

  • Identify, evaluate, negotiate and manage strategic partnerships that enable valuable customer experiences and support the strategic objectives of Amazon.

  • Build strong internal relationships with leaders and counterparts across Amazon’s diverse set of businesses.

  • Work with cross-functional teams including Product, Operations, Engineering, Legal, Finance, and senior management to execute on the relationships.

  • Build internal support for new initiatives with keen focus on market opportunity, business potential, and overall strategic fit.

  • Evaluate the economic and strategic costs and benefits of partnerships and work with appropriate leaders and across all functional areas of Amazon to execute on the relationships.

A day in the life

Own the sourcing, commercial negotiations, budgeting, cost, and business relationship of your contract manufacturer. Is a critical part of the contract manufacturing process and responsible for formulating, communicating, and executing a sourcing strategy relative to their respective contract manufacturer. Partners with business leaders to grow the business by creating new partnerships, leveraging existing relationships, and/or licensing assets to drive product improvements and innovation, enable distribution of our applications, products and/or services, and reduce costs without sacrificing the customer experience.

About the team

Success in the role will be measured by the Sr. HW Commodity Specialist's ability to deliver cost effective business solutions, close AWS beneficial business agreements, and measure/improve supplier performance all while driving a continuous improvement strategy to simplify and shorten the life cycle of each of these tasks. This role will report directly into ISCaP’s Head of Commercial Management Team. There will be some travel required in this role including both domestic and a small number of international trips as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or an advanced degree in supply chain, business, engineering, finance or related technical or quantitative field

  • 7+ years of professional or military experience

  • 7+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience

  • Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level

  • Experience influencing internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience structuring and negotiating complex agreements and leading cross functional groups to orchestrate and successfully complete deals

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to influence others internally and externally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a founder or executive focused on related segments, or as a practice leader or business unit owner

  • Experience selling to Fortune 1000 or Global 2000 organizations

  • Experience in strategic business development, product management, investment banking, legal or other fields that involve commercial partnership negotiations

  • Experience leading cross-functional groups to debate tradeoffs, drive alignment and make high-judgment decisions related to critical partnerships/projects

  • End-to-end deal experience, including identifying, developing, and executing successful partnerships such as licensing deals, complex digital media transactions, and strategic technology relationships

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze income, balance sheet and cash flow statements. Can construct an operating P&L, model deals, and articulate cost/benefit analyses

  • Proficiency with technology and experience working with engineering and technical leaders

  • Global supply chain experience managing cross functional teams.

  • High degree of business ethics, ownership and accountability

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $106,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $198,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
