WSP USA NEPA Planner/Environmental Planner in Atlanta, Georgia

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a NEPA/Environmental Planner for our Atlanta, GA office. Be involved in projects with our Southeast Planning Advisory Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Interpret and apply applicable government codes, ordinances and regulations related to Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) project work.

  • Initiate actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of Georgia regulations.

  • Act as a liaison between project stakeholders, community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing projects.

  • Conduct review of previously approved environmental and planning documents, including evaluation of applications, plats, permits, site plans, variance requests, transportation plans, and ensure local community development plans maintain consistency with project development.

  • Conduct extensive research in specific or general project areas, including land use planning/GIS, and translate desktop research into analysis and narrative/preparation of GIS-based mapping that are applicable to interviews with stakeholders.

  • Collect primary data from stakeholders, interpret data, and apply recommendations for clients.

  • Write and present formal and technical reports, working papers and correspondence.

  • Maintain administrative record using GDOT TPRO, PW, internal tracking, progress reporting, monthly meeting coordination.

  • Identify community problems, issues and opportunities that could be mitigated and raise these to project leads for developing strategies to address risks to scope, schedule, budget.

  • Develop strategies to promote economic and community development, or efficient land use consistent with community goals.

  • Evaluate adequacy of community facilities in meeting current and projected needs.

  • Recommend priorities, schedules and funding sources to implement public improvements plan.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience.)

  • Analytical skills, and familiarity with research techniques, local/regional ecology and habitats, and applicable Regional/State/Federal regulatory framework.

  • Familiar with relevant environmental laws, permitting requirements, notification and compliance practices, and applicable Regional/State/Federal regulatory framework.

  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.

  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
